Spray-On vs Rubber vs Coating RV Roof (Florida)

There are three common ways to fix or replace an RV roof: a rubber membrane such as EPDM or TPO, a brush or roll-on coating, or a sprayed polyurea layer. Rubber membranes are glued down in sheets, coatings are rolled on thin, and polyurea is sprayed to form a seamless layer. Each can be the right call. Here is how they compare for Florida heat, rain and cost.

Costs are relative. Exact numbers depend on RV length, roof condition and the shop. Our own list price is on the cost page.

What to weigh in Florida

  • Heat and UV: all three are made for sun, but product quality and prep decide how long they last
  • Rain: fewer seams means fewer places for water to get in
  • Budget: a cheaper option now may mean repeating the job sooner
  • Roof condition: a soft roof deck needs repair before any of the three

How to choose

If the roof is sound and money is tight, a coating may do. If you plan to keep the rig for years and want fewer leaks to chase, a seamless roof is worth pricing. If you are tearing off to bare deck anyway, a rubber membrane is a proven fit. For our approach see spray-on RV roofs. For storm-related damage see RV roof insurance claims.

Questions

Which RV roof lasts longest?

It depends on the product, the prep and the climate. Ask any shop what their warranty covers in writing.

Is rubber or spray-on better in Florida?

Both can work. Spray-on removes seams, rubber is glued in sheets that have seams to maintain.

Can I coat over my existing roof?

Often, after prep and repair. We check the roof first.

Is spray-on more expensive?

Up front, usually yes. Over time you may repeat the work less often.

Does insurance pay for any of these?

If a covered event damaged the roof, your carrier may pay for the repair. See the claim page.
