The roof process

From drop-off to drive-away

No mystery and no fear of the unknown. This is exactly what happens once your rig is on our lot, why each step matters for the lifetime warranty, and what you walk away with.

Rather not bring it in?

TotalRig offers a full "Get it Done" solution-flow: pickup, full documentation, production, and drop-off. This page covers the work done inside the shop once your rig is on our property.

    Assessment

    Intake: establishing the baseline

Your tires hit the lot and the assessment starts, backed by a documentation suite that supports insurance claim level work and is built to be adjuster-proof. We play the insurance game seriously.

    • Photos of the entire unit from all angles: front, back, under, over, inside.
    • VIN, year, make and model.
    • Past damage and repairs, any non-factory upgrades, and any notes you give us.
    • Date and time intake starts and stops, weather conditions, and who is present.
  • 2
    Assessment

    Roof inspection, top to bottom

We pull the unit into the shop and use our roof access setup to document every bit of damage, the way a house roof is inspected. Cracks, punctures, degrading materials, blistering, delamination.

We check every seal and access point: AC units, vents, fans, skylights, antennas, solar arrays, ladder mounts, front and rear caps, side trim, edge seals, and anything else up there. We also check for unseen damage like soft spots or frame-compromising issues that reveal the extent of the damage without opening the roof up.

    Assessment

Inside the rig: proving the source

Inside, we look for stains, soft spots, odors, and visible water trails or pooling, and tie those results to the roof report so we can correlate damage and prove the source. When needed we use moisture meters, thermal imaging (rare), and other non-intrusive tests.

Every image is tagged with RV-referenced coordinates, including exact measurements from at least three points. To deny that would be to fail at measuring. It is our responsibility to make it unreasonable for a professional adjuster to present conflicting information. The truth is one thing.

    Assessment

    Findings and your decision matrix

Findings are separated into four categories:

    Cosmetic
    Active damage
    Structural damage
Required for the lifetime warrantyFixes that must happen first. Cutting into the roof after it's applied would void the warranty.

You get a clear solution-flow to restore full integrity to the roof and stop top-down water intrusion, presented with photos, locations and readings as a full decision matrix. You approve the work and we get to work. If you're paying, we update you directly as the project moves so your timeline stays accurate. If insurance is involved, we keep the carrier updated too, so there are no issues or surprises.

A final price, not a guess

Most shops give a verbal report and a rinse-and-repeat estimate. Every TotalRig quote is a start-to-finish final price. The only thing that changes it is you requesting and approving more work during the project, like a solar prep kit or another roof upgrade.

    Prep

Prep: the foundation of the warranty

This phase quietly decides whether the finished roof lasts a lifetime. Polyurea only bonds as well as the surface underneath allows, so thorough prep is non-negotiable.

    • Complete cleaning: dirt, oxidation, loose coatings, old sealant, and residue from previous repairs.
    • Old sealant and coatings removed down to a clean, sound surface where required.
    • Soft, rotten or delaminated decking cut out and replaced, so the system sits on solid structure.
    • Vents, AC units and other penetrations removed or lifted, old gaskets and sealant taken off, mounting surfaces inspected and cleaned, and anything that needs repair handled before the new roof goes down.

Prep can run from a full day to several days depending on roof size and what we find. That's intentional. Rushing it creates exactly the hidden issues that show up later as failures.

    Application

    Spraying one seamless membrane

Specialized spray equipment applies the polyurea in a controlled, consistent pattern, section by section, while keeping coverage continuous so it forms one unified skin. It flows into every contour, around every fixture, and down into the details. No seams, no overlaps, no weak points.

It starts curing almost on contact, building thickness and strength as it goes. It is not a thin paint-like layer. It's a substantial membrane, built to the thickness long-term durability needs rather than the minimum that looks good on day one, and designed to move with the roof while staying locked in place.

  • 7
    Handoff

    Cure, reinstall, final inspection

We don't rush the cure. The membrane reaches full strength and adhesion before any weight or components go back on. Then vents, covers, AC units and other components are reinstalled or replaced with new gaskets and proper sealing.

Before release, we inspect the whole surface for consistent coverage and thickness and verify every penetration is installed and sealed correctly. It's the last chance to catch anything, and we treat it that way.

    Handoff

You drive away with the paperwork

    • Photos of the completed work
    • Warranty paperwork
    • Basic care notes

A finished roof that is fully documented, fully warrantied, and ready for the road, with no lingering questions about what was done or why.

Keeping the lifetime warranty valid

Keep the roof reasonably clean, avoid damaging the membrane with improper attachments or impact, and follow the care notes we provide. If something happens, contact us instead of attempting a field repair that could void coverage. The warranty is built around proper installation and normal use, not complicated maintenance routines.

Common questions, answered straight

Will it change the height or look of my roof?

The polyurea membrane adds minimal thickness. It follows the existing contours of the roof rather than building up a thick new layer, so the overall height and profile stay essentially the same. The finished look is clean and uniform.

What if there is already water damage underneath?

That is exactly why the assessment and prep phases exist. We identify soft or compromised substrate during the inspection, then cut out and replace the damaged material before the new membrane goes down. Leaving water-damaged structure in place would undermine the entire system, so we deal with it properly up front.

Can I still walk on it or mount solar later?

Yes. Once fully cured, the membrane is designed to be walked on for normal maintenance and inspection. Solar mounts and other accessories can be added later, but they need to be installed correctly so they do not compromise the membrane. We can discuss the right approach if that is part of your plan.

How is this different from a regular coating or membrane replacement?

A regular coating is typically a thinner layer that sits on top of the existing surface and can still allow movement or separation over time. Traditional membrane replacement often involves seams and mechanical fasteners. The polyurea system we use is a seamless, fully bonded membrane that becomes part of the roof structure. It flexes with the unit, resists punctures, and eliminates the seam and edge failure points common in other methods.

What do I need to do to keep the warranty valid?

Keep the roof reasonably clean, avoid damaging the membrane with improper attachments or impact, and follow the basic care notes we provide. If something does happen, contact us rather than attempting field repairs that could void coverage. The warranty is built around proper installation and normal use, not around complicated maintenance routines.

Will my insurance pay for this?

It depends on what happened. Sudden, accidental events like a tree limb, hail or a storm puncture are typically covered under comprehensive coverage, minus your deductible. Gradual failure from dried-out sealant, neglected seams, or a roof that sat for years without attention is treated as owner responsibility. We will tell you honestly what the carrier is likely to do before any work starts.

What does the quote include?

Every TotalRig quote is a start-to-finish final price. The only thing that changes it is you requesting and approving additional work during the project, such as a solar prep kit or another roof upgrade. Financing is available so budget is not the reason you skip the right long-term decision.
